In the beginning, we were talking about Santa Barbara. A small ceremony and a party under the stars. Palm trees and maybe a session on the beach.
And midway through the planning, life happened. Suddenly the thing Genevieve’s family most wanted was a celebration in their hometown of Chicago—something Genevieve’s grandmother could attend, too. So the plan changed and we all crossed our fingers that the weather on the date the couple had chosen in order to share with Genevieve’s grandparents wedding decades before, would be beautiful.
Chicago bloomed just in time and the weekend’s weather was absolutely gorgeous—great for photographs, great for a little walk pre-ceremony, and great for the rabble-rousing Gen/Eric had planned for the reception later.
Genevieve’s father officiated and his poetic message about love was so moving and personal and perfect, I found myself recording the audio. Really.
The celebration continued at the couple’s favorite neighborhood restaurant—Letizia’s Fiore in Chicago’s Logan Square. The food was incredible, as always, and between the toasts and the friends and the superfly dance moves and the cigar bar and more edibles, it was the very best way to continue the great idea that is Eric + Genevieve.
